First Month in Germany

My first month has past in Germany (September 11th, 2013). I really like it here. I attend Woehlerschule Gymnasium. School in the Frankfurt or the hessen region starts August 19th. Before school started I was very nervous. I remember being very homesick the Sunday before school started as I do not know German and I thought what if the students do not like me. But it was nice that I had my host brother, Eric. I was put into klasse 10 (grade 10) just as my host brother. My host brother after two weeks left to go to England for an exchange. He will come back in April. The students in the school are very nice and supporting, but the classes are very boring as you dont understand anything. If you think classes are boring in Canada then you are wrong. You do not know what boring is until you go into a class where you do not understand a word of the language. It was tough, but being in classes my drawing has gotten a lot better 😉 . Other than that I love it here. It is so easy to get around, you have 3 types of transportation you can use: S Bahn, U Bahn und StrasseBahn. S Bahn is like a train that travels around the city and is very fast. The U Bahn travels under ground, and the StrasseBahn travels through the streets therefore it is very easy to get around. I have been biking to my school everyday as the weather has been nice! It only takes 10-15minutes to bike! With the U Bahn it takes around 5 minutes to get to my school.

August 11th, 2013-First Day

Today has been my first official day in Germany. I have flew to Germany with Icelandic Air. I left Canada at 8pm and I arrived in Frankfurt Am Main at 1pm (German Time). My first day was quite stressful. I arrived and I was waiting for my luggage. I brought two suitcases but only one suitcase came, and I did not know what to do. I went to the “Lost Baggage” section but they said I must find the Icelandic Air counter and there was no counter for Icelandic Air. So an hour later I decided to go outside as my host family have been waiting for me for over 1 hour. They were very worried and had called AYUSA that I may have been missing, but all in all, they helped me and we finally informed the Icelandic Air counter that my one luggage was missing. We went home and they asked me if I was hungry and I said of course. We had breakfast for lunch. I was so amazed by all the different types of breads they have here! Germany has at least 300 types of different bread. Then after I went to play Fussball with my host brother and others in the park, but I had no fussball shoes as they were in the suitcase that was lost so I played in running shoes! So over I had a good first day! I have came to Germany with only knowing a few words such as “Danke”, “Bitte”, und of couse “Wie geht es dir?” Â
